I’m Eric McPhaul, owner of Planet 21 Salon.
First, I want to thank all of our amazing stylists and staff. We couldn't have grown our salons without our amazing clients and future clients that have supported us for so many years!
An owner is only as good as his staff. Our staff is only as good as our amazing clientele!
I opened up Planet 21 Salon in 1998 with a vision to not only do great hair but also deliver an experience the client wouldn’t forget. I wanted a really fun, upbeat, sexy first class vibe like no other.
I started with nine chairs at the time and within ten years we expanded and opened another location in Ballantyne which has also been expanded three times!
I love changing the salon's decor, vibe and overall atmosphere every few years. It provides our clients, staff and stylist a space to enjoy, be creative and stay exciting. We are Charlotte's first and only departmentalized salon which means all of our stylists specialize in cut or color after finishing a years training program with our senior stylists who have been with our salon for 15 - 22 years.
I think our clients love the fact that we keep things changing and exciting.
So with all that said, I hope you can tell what we are about and what we stand for.

Over the years, the salon team has designed and produced several hair/fashion shows and has had their worked published in both consumer hair magazines and the industry trade show book, “Passion Magazine”. In February of 2006, Eric and Lee Ann were asked to represent Wella Hair Color in a year-long ad campaign that ran in the trade magazine “Salon Today”.
Planet 21 Salon also offers their services in a multitude of fundraising efforts, from the local humane society, to helping one of their most precious clients obtain a service dog and an on-going effort to help raise money for breast cancer research.
Training
Planet 21 Salon has an in-salon training program for all of their stylists that incorporates both British and French haircutting techniques. They also have a fully-trained color department that continually receives ongoing education in current and emerging trends from around the world.
Through their partnership with Wella Professional Hair Color they are able to send chosen staff members to New York and L.A. to further their education through specialized training at the world-renowned Wella Studios. The salon also brings in top educators from around the world to help keep them both current and inspired.
